In a significant development, the Mumbai Police arrested Faizan Khan, a lawyer from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for allegedly issuing death threats and demanding a Rs 50 lakh ransom from Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The investigation team traveled to Chhattisgarh after the Bandra police station received a threat call last week.
The Threat Call Incident
On November 7, police constable Santosh Ghodke answered a call at the Bandra station. The caller explicitly named Shah Rukh Khan, mentioning his residence at Mannat, Bandstand, and threatened to kill him if the demand for Rs 50 lakh was not met. When asked for his identity, the caller enigmatically replied, “Doesn't matter… if you need a name, write it as Hindustani,” before disconnecting.
The Investigation and Arrest
Following the call, authorities traced the number to a mobile phone registered under Faizan Khan's name. According to Raipur police, Faizan, 42, resides in the Pandri area—central India's notable textile market. During initial questioning, Faizan stated that his mobile phone had been stolen, a claim he had reported on November 2 at the Khamardih police station in Raipur. This date coincided with Shah Rukh Khan's birthday, adding an unusual twist to the timeline.
Despite his explanation and documentation, the Mumbai police summoned Faizan to join the investigation. His failure to comply led to his arrest. Mumbai authorities are expected to present him before a local court to seek transit remand for further questioning in Mumbai.
Security Concerns for Shah Rukh Khan
The incident is not the first to raise alarms regarding the superstar's safety. Just a month earlier, Shah Rukh Khan’s security detail was upgraded to Y+ category by the Maharashtra government. This level of protection includes a team of six personal security officers working round the clock and five armed guards stationed at his residence. The decision to enhance his security followed multiple threats post-release of his blockbuster films Pathaan and Jawan.
Faizan Khan's Background and Legal History
This arrest is not the first time Faizan Khan has found himself in legal trouble. Earlier this year, he faced charges in a minor criminal case. Notably, Faizan once filed a complaint against Shah Rukh Khan for a dialogue in the 1994 movie Anjaam that referred to deer hunting, an issue that had generated controversy at the time.
The Road Ahead
The Mumbai police are continuing their investigation, seeking clarity on whether Faizan’s claim of a stolen phone holds truth or if there is a deeper motive behind the threat. Authorities have not revealed any specific details on why Faizan would target Shah Rukh Khan, and the question of whether the act was orchestrated to frame him remains open.
The incident comes on the heels of a series of threats involving Bollywood stars. Earlier this year, actor Salman Khan reportedly received threats from the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The recurring pattern of high-profile threats has cast a shadow over Mumbai’s vibrant film industry, urging both authorities and celebrities to remain vigilant.
As the case unfolds, further details will shed light on whether Faizan Khan was wrongfully implicated or if he played an active role in this alarming episode. For now, Shah Rukh Khan's security has been bolstered to ensure his safety amidst rising concerns.
