The government of Andhra Pradesh has recently opened the door for new liquor outlet licenses, generating significant interest among applicants. As of October 13, nearly 90,000 non-refundable applications were submitted, resulting in an impressive revenue of Rs 1,800 crore, with each application costing Rs 2 lakh.
On October 14, the lottery process to select the winners was conducted, marking a pivotal step in implementing the new liquor policy. Once the winners are announced, they will be required to pay licensing fees ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 85 lakh, depending on the location of their outlets, which will be paid in six installments.
The government's projections indicate that Andhra Pradesh could rake in an annual revenue of approximately Rs 2,084 crore solely from liquor licenses. As the licenses are issued on Tuesday, the initial installment payment will bring in an additional Rs 335 crore, providing a much-needed financial boost to the fiscally struggling state.
In contrast to the previous YCP government's cash-only policy, the new NDA policy mandates online payments to enhance transparency and track liquor sales. The government anticipates generating around Rs 17,000 crore in liquor sales over the next six months, setting a new precedent for revenue collection in the state.pol
